The mother knew she couldn’t afford the 50 cents needed to replace it. Overwhelmed by the reality of her circumstances, she quietly walked away and cried.

But in that moment of desperation, something unexpected happened.

She felt God speak to her heart and instruct her to take out the garbage. What happened next would leave her amazed at God’s provision. Inside a large black garbage bag, she discovered household supplies, school items for her daughter and, at the very bottom, a single light bulb.
She hadn’t prayed specifically for a light bulb.

She hadn’t asked God for the 50 cents to buy one.

She was simply crying because she didn’t know how she would manage.

Yet she discovered that God had seen her need.

When You Think God Isn’t Listening

There are moments when we pray and wonder whether God hears us.

We may not know what words to say anymore. We may have prayed the same prayer over and over. We may even wonder whether our situation is too small for God to notice.

But this testimony is a beautiful reminder that God sees the needs we don’t even know how to express.

The mother herself shares that her tears were enough to lead her to a place where her need and even more than her immediate need was met.

If you are a mother crying over your children tonight, don’t lose heart.

If you’re worried about how you will provide, don’t lose heart.

If you’re waiting for God to answer a prayer, don’t lose heart.
God is not only the God who hears. He is the God who sees.

There is much more to this beautiful testimony, including what was inside that mysterious garbage bag and how this simple light bulb became a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness.

Read the full article, “A Mother’s Tears Can Pray,” in the July– September 2026 edition of Aurora Magazine.**

And if you’re going through a difficult season right now, remember:

Your tears are not invisible to God.
